HEY GUESS WHAT? THIS IS A LONG WALL OF TEXT. SCROLL DOWN FOR TL;DR.

Time to carve another line of infamy into my growing repertoire. Here’s another attempt to put the main six into Sonic proportions, this time along with their pets.

This is something I’ve been working on on and off for longer than I’d like to admit, mostly because of various tweaks and redesigning that went on after the sketches were done.

Originally I started doing the designs a couple years ago, but only got as far as Twilight, Applejack and Fluttershy. Those images are linked further below. The style I was using at the time wore me out, and honestly I lost interest after not really enjoying the rest of the designs at the time.

Honestly, parts are still a bit wonky to me, but I’m beyond done with working on this. I can live with this for now.

As far as doing any other characters, it will be on my own time as I please, or potentially on a commission basis. That said, I’m not interested in doing any others at this time.

I’m honestly not too fond of their Equestria Girls designs, which is why I didn’t use them here.

That said, how about I explain these a bit eh?

You’re more than welcome to disagree with my design choices. I catered these to my own taste and my understanding of the characters.

Below you’ll find another wall of text regarding each design, and all that jazz.

-------------

(For the sake of things, we’ll go right to left.)

:bulletblue: Rainbow Dash and Tank :bulletblue:

Most of the time I saw interpretations (human, anthro, whatever) of Rainbow Dash having a tomboy-ish punk style. Nothin’ wrong with that honestly, however I chose to do a more direct athletic route. I don’t see Dash taking a bunch of time to really prepare herself unless it was something she cared for enough. Since her thing is speed (and probably acrobatics in general) I gave her a track and field style unitard. One part was to give  less air drag, the other part it being an easy one piece that won’t hinder her wings much. She’s also sporting her Wonderbolt fan-girl with her brand-name shoes and sweatbands.

Tank has become a Turtloid badnik from Sonic 2. We’ll call him refurbished, not needing an animal to power himself.

:bulletpink: Pinky Pie and Gummy :bulletpink:

I had THE hardest time designing Pinkie Pie. She started out as an 80s/90s child complete with a puffy jacket, neon green loose socks, and a tutu. Later I just went with more a huge tutu, you know to have a place where she’d have all of the items she pulls from nowhere. I didn’t care too much for how I did that either though, and found myself looking to the outfit from Pon Pon Pon. Not only did the music video itself seem like a paradise for her, but the English lyrics seemed to fit with her ideologies as a character in regards to wanting to see people be happy. Guild would have me as I almost just stuck her in the outfit verbatim. Didn’t feel too happy with that.

Finally took some parts after a circus ringmaster, considering Pinkie could probably run a one-pony circus with her kind of energy and mysterious ability to multi-task in near obscene ways.

Gummy became the half-fish animal creature from Sonic Adventure 2. Honestly, I didn’t bother trying to make a small-animal-styled alligator (guilty as charged). I went with more the idea of the oddity Gummy is as a pet, and chose a small animal that seemed to fit that notion.

:bulletwhite: Rarity and Opal:bulletwhite:

Rarity is another I had a hard time with. The goal was to try to find something casual for her. I really don’t know what Rarity would find casual, but I see her as more of a business woman / entrepreneur aside from being the talented seamstress fashionista. Here we have her in simple blouse with a pencil skirt, some pumps and just enough jewelry to accessorize without being too too gaudy. ‘Dem rocks are real yo. Also, I didn’t give her any gloves here, but I could see her doing so with other outfits.

Her hair deviated the most in comparison with the others though. The goal was having her signature locks not ending up in her face or in the way.

Opal…I didn’t feel confident enough to capture her in the small-animal style. Instead she’s a fat shiny white hero flying chao, second evolution. Oh and some whiskers.

:bulletpurple: Twilight Sparkle, Owlowscious, and Spike :bulletpurple:

Twlight’s design barely changed from her initial one: Sonic Style Ponies: Twilight Sparkle by BlazeTBW

The main difference is that she’s sporting Mary Janes now. Essentially schoolgirl Sparkle 101, fit for an academy. That and for her family to live in Canterlot and sent her through her special direction of schooling, it would be my assumption that they were relatively comfortable lifestyle wise. Not filthy rich, but well off.

When I started doing these designs forever ago, Twilight hadn’t earned her wings yet. I chose to keep it that way for here since I still liked the design. For Princess Twilight, I’d rather design a different outfit to reflect on her evolution of sorts.

Spike. ...Didn’t feel a need to really change much about him. I felt that his existing shapes worked out for Sonic style as it was, and just gave him more kid-like proportions. Thought about shoes, sandals, messenger bag (inventory boy), honestly didn’t appeal to me. That scarf though? Twilight gave it to him so that he’d have something. He didn’t care for it at first until Rarity embroidered that ruby heart on there. Now he won’t take the thing off, not even to wash.

Owlowiscious became an Adventure style small animal. I didn’t feel brown worked with the larger eyes, and opted for the green-ish color.

:bulletorange: Applejack and Winona :bulletorange:

Applejack was the only one to really change from her first design: Sonic Style Ponies: Applejack by BlazeTBW

Went more Applejack 101 this time, the shorts were silly. Tried out doing cowboy boots. …Uh… idk, I wish I had more to say about her really but, pretty straight forward.

Winona was done more in the classic small animal style, which is why she has 3-toed paws. I noticed that was a staple in just about all the designs regardless of species. Again, not much to say, probably the easiest transition.

:bulletyellow: Fluttershy and Angel :bulletyellow:

Fluttershy’s design didn’t change one bit from before: Sonic Style Ponies: Fluttershy by BlazeTBW

So I gave her a basket to hold.

As before, she was based more around the designs of Cream the Rabbit and Vanilla. Boots because working with animals, big or small, its rarely, if ever, a clean job. One that she does with pride, aside from her hidden sewing talents.

Angel still being as anal as ever. He’s just a regular hero chao with pink instead of the signature blue of the normal ones. No…I didn’t want to give him bunny ears. (You can if you want to though.)

That’s…about it I guess. I wanted to make them each unique enough on their own without all of them just having their marks exclusively on their clothes (or in the same place). How did I do?

-----------

TL;DR – I honestly had some fun in doing these, but I’ll be damned if I do any more any time soon. Did it my own way whether you like the results or not.

That and there’s other people that can do perfect/better Sonic channel/Sonic Adventure style. I just wanted to get these designs done and out of the way.

-----------

:) Enjoy!
